GURRIDI TRADITIONAL LAND TRUST

Gurridi is a place where our people can return to Country, work together and build a strong future for the next generations.

We see Gurridi as a living outstation. A place where culture is strong, where knowledge is shared between Elders and young people, where people can train, work and care for Country. It is a place that brings people together and creates real opportunities for our community.

For us, Gurridi is about more than land. It is about responsibility, belonging and leadership. It is about creating pathways for our people so that culture, employment, wellbeing and economic opportunity can grow together.

We welcome people who want to walk alongside us in this vision and respect that this work is led by the Traditional Owners of this Country.

Our
Story

Who we are

We are the Traditional Owners of Gurridi.

The Gurridi Traditional Land Trust holds and governs the Gurridi Indigenous freehold estate on the Gulf of Carpentaria coast in north-west Queensland. The land is held under the Aboriginal Land Act 1991 (Qld) and is owned by the Trust on behalf of the Traditional Owners.

Our responsibility is both cultural and legal. We care for this Country, protect its cultural heritage and guide decisions about how the land is used now and into the future.

The Trust is a statutory landholding body with its own ABN and Constitution. Governance is exercised locally through recognised cultural authority and community leadership.

Through the Trust we:

  • Care for and protect our Country

  • Hold cultural authority and responsibility for the land

  • Guide the future of the Gurridi estate

  • Create opportunities for our community

  • Build partnerships that respect Traditional Owner leadership

Everything that happens at Gurridi is guided by the Trust and the Traditional Owners who hold responsibility for this Country.
